Posh Pedicure at Lyttle Minx in West Dulwich, London

Ok, so at the age of twenty six I’m slightly embarrassed to say I’ve never had a manicure or a pedicure before. Since uni, I’ve been about as frugal as possible, so I Lyttle Minxrarely indulge myself – but every now and then a bit of pampering certainly does not go amiss. In the name of research, I’ve been trying to sniff out the best salons in South London, so at the weekend I headed down the road to West Dulwich for a pedicure at the gorgeous Lyttle Minx beauty salon.

The salon may be on the cosy side of small, but the fantastic décor has real impact and there’s a distinctly glamorous boutique feel. The reflective floral wallpaper is uber chic, while brightly coloured trimmings like the neon pink and green chairs make everything look cute and funky.

After the quiet of the  street outside, the burst of colour greeting me had a big Lyttle Minxwow-factor – and the extra helpful, friendly staff completely matched this. Stylish salons can sometimes feel a little bit intimidating, but Lyttle Minx is totally down to earth and really fun.

My feet have been feeling pretty sorry for themselves recently: my toenails nails have been drying out under the same coat of polish repeatedly topped up, while the hard, calloused skin on my heels is like a constant reminder that I’m getting older! I really had no idea how beneficial a pedicure might be, so I was thrilled to discover that this was a whole lot more than just a lick of paint!

Kenzie, my stylist, started off by soaking my feet in warm, soapy water to soften them up. After a hard week at work, this was already feeling like heaven! Then, one Lyttle Minxfoot at a time, she trimmed, filed and cleaned the nails (keeping them rounded, to my taste) and trimmed my cuticles. Both Kenzie and the other girls working on Saturday were really chatty throughout my treatment, keeping me really entertained – it felt less like going to a salon and more like popping round a friend’s for a natter!

My favourite part of the treatment – disgusting though it may sound – was the Callus gel which Kenzie used to soften up the gross hard skin on my heels and the soles of my feet. It acts sort of like an acid to melt away the dry skin, and the effect is fantastic. When Kenzie followed up with a grater-like file, masses of dead skin came off and my feet felt much less calloused afterwards.

We finished up with some moisturising lotion, and a few coats of gorgeous nail polish in my favourite colour – hot pink! The final result was cute, colourful and Lyttle Minxreally fun – just like Lyttle Minx itself! It’s tricky to find a decent salon in South London – most of the time you have to head west – so it’s fantastic to know that there’s a fab boutique beauty salon just around the corner from me! Since first time customers get 20% off all treatments at the moment you should definitely head down to West Dulwich and check out the Lyttle Minx Salon.

The final result!

  1. I’ve been to a few spas but never had a manicure or pedicure either – got one booked for my wedding next month though as decided that’s a big enough excuse to splash out!
