Summer, State Side: The Most Luxurious and Expensive U.S. Vacation Rentals Today

Leaving Las Vegas

Few of us can use the phrase “money is no object” in the literal sense. That doesn’t keep us from shopping and dreaming, and those dreams take us across the Atlantic Ocean to vacation luxury in some of America’s most notoriously expensive and decadent venues. If it’s within your price range, you can enjoy some of the most opulent vacation rentals the United States has to offer.

What Happens in Vegas…

It’s always summer in the desert, and Las Vegas is famous for glitz, glamour and money. The Palm Penthouse Villa is exactly as luxurious as it sounds. Entertain to impress under lofty studio ceilings and soft violet track lighting accented by plush designer furniture. Relax by the expansive full size bar, lounge in the oversized sofa in front of the big screen TV or stroll across the hardwood floors and enjoy the 360° view of the shining city spread out beneath your feet.

In case there isn’t enough inside to occupy and thrill inside, slip into the jacuzzi pool (bring 19 friends, as it fits 20) or watch your favourite flick in the private theatre. All of this luxury can be yours at the bargain price of $100 000 US dollars a week. Not a bad deal, considering some of the listings you might see on posh websites like the Freeman Foreman homepage.

I Dream of Skiing

Even if you’re searching for summer rentals, the resorts and mansions set up in ski country are worth a look. Utah might not be the first place that comes to mind when it comes to luxury rentals, but thanks to the geography, climate and of course the 2002 Winter Games, this quiet little state’s potential has been realized.

On the lower end of the spectrum at just over $100 000 US a week is the Red Cloud Estate in the scenic Deer Valley. The estate can house 20 people and at no matter what time of year you visit, there’s plenty to do. Enjoy a tennis court, wine cellar and fully-equipped sports court. The great outdoors is easily accessible; hiking, biking and horseback riding opportunities abound along with the standard ski-in ski out accessories. Privacy and pristine wilderness for miles around make this luxuriously private as well as just luxurious.

If you’ve got an extra $10 000 burning a hole in your pocket, check out the Peak 5 Colony Mountain Lodge at Canyon’s Resort in Park City. One of many luxury rentals at Canyon’s Resort, this lodge consists of more than 30 000 square feet that includes (but is not limited to) 12 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms, a garage that can house 18 cars, a wine cellar and a ski prep room complete with boot warmers. Take some time to explore this massive luxury home and discover all that it has to offer.

Eternal Summer by the Sea

An ocean view and a private boat launch are the very definition of luxury, and that’s just the start for these rentals where summer never ends. Miami’s South Beach is where one would expect to find luxury rentals and the region lives up to it’s reputation. The rentals here start at $150 000 and include everything you would expect in an oceanfront palace.

Only a short ride by either car or boat from South Beach is the Chateau Palm Island, a secluded villa with views of the ocean as well as the glittering Miami skyline. You and 9 other people can comfortably fit into the 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms as well as enjoy the garden waterfall pool and extensive verandas.

If you’re visiting Palm Island and the Chateau isn’t enough, for an extra $20 000 you can move into the Villazzo Villa in the Hotel Contenta. This 11,000 square foot home, built in a classy and comfortable Colonial style, has 6 bedrooms, 5 bathrooms and can fit 12 people. Guests can also take advantage of a private dock and boat launch in addition to the usual standard luxury amenities, like the pool, jacuzzi and regulation size volleyball court.

The Romantic South Pacific

For an option outside the continental United States and for those who would prefer to experience that other ocean, there’s the Kauhale Pilialoha on the big island of Hawaii. For a mere $147 000 dollars a week, you can enjoy 2.5 acres of secluded tropical oceanfront paradise. No less than 30 people can fit into this expansive 11 bedroom 12 bathroom home. The interior features a game room, theatre, gym and steam room. Outside, a series of patios and verandas make it easy to enjoy the sumptuous tropical beauty that only the warm Pacific Ocean currents can design.

For some things, it’s worth spending big. The good life, in the form of luxury, quality and comfort, is beyond price. If you’re the type of person that has the money to spend, you probably won’t even look at the price. The rest of us can browse the rental pages and set our sights on champagne wishes and caviar dreams.
