This year, I’ve been on quite a few city breaks – most recently to pretty Lausanne and super-stylish Geneva for a very chilly winter break. So, when cool fashion platform Lyst asked me to partner up with them to create a moodboard for winter city break fashion, I was really intrigued. I’m far from being a fashion expert, but I always try to look good whilst I’m away on short trips – which can be pretty tough when I’m travelling with just hand luggage!
Packing for Winter City Breaks: My Tips!
For winter breaks, I have a few staples that always travel with me, like my trusty Barbour backpack (read the review here) which makes the perfect day back. Packing for winter city breaks can be tough when everything’s so bulky – so my trick is to dress in several lighter layers, with the only bulky item being a nice thick coat to complete the look.
When packing for winter city breaks, create a compact wardrobe from several stylish but comfy pieces that can be easily mixed and matched to create several outfits. If it’s going to be really chilly, teaming skinny jeans or leggings with thermal leggings underneath will keep you extra warm without spoiling your outfit with unstylish, “practical” trousers! You can do the same on top, too; wear a thermal vest underneath a long-sleeved T-shirt, and add a poncho or a nice jumper over the top for a look that’s easily adjustable if you get too hot.
One last tip: opt for seriously comfy, practical shoes – preferably waterproof ones. You can’t go wrong with a trusty pair of black ankle boots, and as you wander the slippery cobbled streets of a city’s old town your feet will thank you for not wearing flats!
