A review of the stunning Playa Blanca Holiday Villas – the perfect place for families and big groups to stay in Lanzarote…

If you’re heading to Lanzarote for a group trip or a big family holiday, chances are you’ll be looking for the perfect holiday villa to accommodate you all.

Playa Blanca is a popular choice with families. The sheltered beaches are great for kids, and while there’s plenty to do in the town (including two waterparks and lots of great bars and restaurants) it still has a quiet, small-town feel.

Of course, it’s not just great for families! Those tranquil vibes and beautiful beaches are great for anyone heading to Lanzarote for a relaxing holiday.

If you want to laze in the sun, enjoy some great seafood, and swim in the sea – Placa Blanca is the place for you. And Playa Blanca Holiday Villas may just be the perfect accommodation for your group.

After spending a few days staying at Villa Vista Reina, one of the 6-bedroom Playa Blanca Holiday Villas, I wrote up this in-depth review. Hopefully, this will help you decide if these villas fit your holiday needs!

Feel free to ask questions in the comments – and let me know if you end up booking a stay. I’d love to hear about your experiences. In the meantime – happy holiday planning…

My stay at Playa Blanca Holiday Reviews was complimentary in exchange for this review. However, I paid for flights and all travel costs, and all words and opinions are my own (as always).

Playa Blanca Holiday Villas Review

The Location: The Best Holiday Villas in Placa Blanca

Playa Blanca is the southernmost town in Lanzarote. The name means “white beach”, and the beautiful, sandy beach is one of the biggest draws here. It’s a small resort town with a scenic marina, lots of sheltered bays for sea swimming, and great vibes. Ideal for a relaxing beach holiday!

Playa Blanca

No surprise, then, that Playa Blanca is one of the most popular areas to stay on the island. While there are several hotels and resorts in the area, a holiday villa is ideal for big groups and families. You can enjoy all the comforts of home, and have a bit of your own space to relax in – rather than sharing a pool with a whole hotel of people.

Playa Blanca Holiday Villas have four villas dotted around the town, most of them targeted towards big groups. Most of these are found within the upmarket new Vista Lobos neighbourhood: a peaceful residential neighbourhood just uphill from the main town.

It’s still very close to all the action – just over 20 minutes walk to Playa Blanca’s town centre. The closest beach, Playa Flamingo, is less than a 15-minute walk and is a great swimming spot. Or, it’s an easy 5-minute drive, and there’s plenty of parking around, so if you rent a car you can be at the beach in minutes.

In short, you have the best of both worlds by staying at one of the Playa Blanca Holiday Villas. You’ll be close to the town and beaches – and walking distance to some great bars and restaurants – but you’ll also have the peace and quiet of a residential neighbourhood.

The Concept: Quality, Family-Sized Villas at a Mid-Range Budget

Playa Blanca Holiday Villas currently have a catalogue of four fantastic villas dotted around Playa Blanca – all very close to the beaches and main town.

The concept is simple. These are spacious, modern, and very comfortable villas suitable for family holidays and group trips. Decor is light, simple, and stylish; and all the villas are incredibly well-appointed with everything you could need for your stay – plus a few luxurious touches – delivering a high-quality stay at a mid-range price.

Villas Rey, Reina, and Princesa are all found in the Vistas Lobos area mentioned above and are very similar to one another. These three villas have six bedrooms and five bathrooms and each sleep up to 15 guests.

Villa Arabella, on the other hand, has two bedrooms and two bathrooms (plus a sofabed), accommodating up to 5 guests.

All the villas have their own private heated pools and outdoor patio areas – complete with Canarian BBQs and outdoor seating & dining areas. They also have full kitchens (no cramped kitchenettes here), free WiFi, and a smart TV with free Netflix access.

The rest of this review will focus on Villa Vista Reina, as that’s where I stayed. But as all the properties are so similar and done to the same high standards, it’s safe to assume that this review applies to all the Playa Blanca Holiday Villas.

I was staying at the Villa Vista Reina during my trip to Playa Blanca, one of the three 6-bedroom properties dotted around Vista Lobos.

From the moment I arrived, I was blown away by how lovely this villa was. The decor is quite simple – with cream tiles, bright white walls and light wooden trim throughout – creating a fresh, welcoming feel. Think contemporary vibes with lots of cute home-y touches, like fun posters on the walls.

There’s a LOT of space, with high ceilings and large rooms. Even at full capacity with 15 guests, I don’t think this villa would ever feel cramped! The huge skylight window over the central staircase brings so much light into the property – as do the French windows which open onto the outside terrace on both the ground and first floor of the villa.

It’s also incredibly practical, with absolutely everything you could possibly need throughout your stay. Most importantly: a large, full-sized kitchen with two fridge freezers, a dishwasher, and a washing machine! I’ll try to cover everything in a bit more detail below…

Outside: Pool, Terrace, and BBQ

The outdoor terrace and private swimming pool is probably the biggest selling point of this fantastic villa. Nothing beats having your own private pool – a perfect little slice of luxury.

This one is heated to 28°C, so you can use it all year, and is sheltered by the walls around the villa, creating a gorgeous little suntrap. This means you can still swim even when Lanzarote’s famous winds are blowing strong! At 32m², it’s quite a small pool compared to what you might get in a hotel, but considering that you’ll have the whole thing to yourself, I think it’s more than enough.

The terrace is huge! At ground level, there’s a spacious terrace surrounding the pool, with several sunloungers and a large umbrella for some much-needed shade.

But there’s also an upper layer of terrace wrapped around the front and side of the villa’s top floor. Most of this upper section is covered, and there’s a large outdoor dining area up here with views of the distant volcanoes.

And tucked between the top and ground levels of the terrace is a third patio area where you’ll find outdoor sofas, a large brick BBQ, and a bar counter with stools. The perfect spot for some al fresco dining, or relaxing at sunset with a cold glass of cava!

Inside: Kitchen, dining area, and lounge

The communal areas of Villa Vista Reina are equally enormous – this is such a spacious holiday villa, perfect for group trips to Playa Blanca.

On the first floor – which is where the entrance is and which feels like the “main” space – there are two ensuite bedrooms, a bathroom, and the kitchen dining area.

While some Airbnbs and holiday homes have cramped little kitchenettes, Villa Vista Reina has a spacious, full-size kitchen with a large fridge freezer, a full-sized oven with an electric hob, a microwave, and a dishwasher. There’s plenty of counter space, including a wide kitchen island which separates the cooking area from the dining area.

There’s also a small utility area tucked just outside with a second fridge freezer and a washing machine. So there’s no chance you’ll run out of fridge space!

Downstairs, you’ll find the rest of the bedrooms and the “main” bathroom. These all lead off from a large central room which forms the lounge and communal area.

This has a large corner sofa around a smart TV and a bookshelf with books and board games. There’s also a smaller sofa further back which you could pull over if a bigger group want to watch TV.

Better still, this large recreation room also has a full-sized pool table and a dart board! You could stay in every night and never get bored – although I do recommend heading out to enjoy some of the local nightlife, too.

The Bedrooms

Like the Rey and Princesa villas, the Villa Vista Reina sleeps 15 people across 6 bedrooms. There are three double rooms, all with en suite bathrooms, one single room, and two family rooms.

One of these family rooms has a double bed and a set of bunk beds, the other has twin beds and two sets of bunk beds – the perfect place to stick all the kids in together if you’re travelling with a few families!

All the rooms are decorated quite simply, but are comfortable and fresh-feeling, with white bed linen and plenty of space. They all have air conditioning (a must during summer), as well as wardrobes with plenty of space to put all your luggage away. You really can have a little home away from home.

I stayed in what could be seen as the “master” bedroom at the front of the property upstairs. This one has a king-sized bed and a smart TV, so it’s probably the best room in the house! The roomy ensuite bathroom also had a bathtub – which I was very happy about.

There are three en suite bathrooms (one for each double room) and two more bathrooms. One of these is a simple toilet and sink, while the downstairs family-sized bathroom has double sinks, a shower, and a bath. So there’s loads of space for everyone to shower and get ready at the same time! The two main bathrooms also have hairdryers which is a VERY welcome touch.
