Spain Travel Tips: written in white text over a photograph of a grey stone circular tower and a palm tree

All my posts about travel in Spain! Land of tapas, flamenco, fiestas, sangria, Picasso, football, and a rich cultural history.

Spain is the European country I know best and have visited the most times. I love that there’s so much diversity in this one nation: mountains, beaches, vineyards, vibrant cities, cute fishing villages, and some dreamy island escapes. There’s so much to see and do, and the food is incredible – probably my favourite in all of Europe!

Spain Travel Tips

Getting Around

  • Public Transportation: Use buses and trains for affordable travel between cities.
  • Car Rentals: Renting a car is ideal for exploring remote areas and national parks.
  • Ride-Sharing: Uber is available in many major cities like Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, and Seville.

Safety

  • Emergency Numbers: Dial 112 for emergencies.
  • Pickpocketing: Be cautious in crowded areas of cities and keep your belongings secure.
  • Weather Preparedness: Dress in layers and be prepared for sudden weather changes. Remember that Spain, especially southern Spain, can get very hot in the summer. Use sun cream, cover up, stay hydrated, and try to avoid the midday sun.

Money-Saving Tips

  • Accommodation: Consider hostels, budget hotels, or Airbnb for cheaper stays.
  • Food: Eat at local markets and tapas bars to save on meals.
  • Off-season: Summer is the peak travel season in Spain. During the Autumn and winter, most destinations are generally quieter and prices are often lower. While it won’t be beach weather, winter is still pretty warm in southern Spain – and the conditions are ideal for sightseeing.
